H.pylori is bacteria which lives in stomach and can cause ulcer. Since everyone can get information about this bacteria froom social media, so these days patients who are suffering from symptoms of indigestion are requesting for this test. In Pakistan this bacteria is very commonly found amongst population (74.6%) in Islamabad periphery according to a recent study. The test costs around 4000 rupees (both IgG and IgM types). There is a growing consensus that the test should not be done in every stomach patient. So it is suggested that the test should be ordered only if a treating physician specifically requires it for some reason. Since H.pylori is a chronic infection so if the test is ordered only the IgG variety should be ordered. This will reduce the cost down to 50%.
